STRUGGLING TO GET OUT AND ABOUT TO CREATE NEW CONTENT? HAVE YOU THOUGHT OF THIS...

HOW TO REPURPOSE YOUR BEST CONTENT FOR SOCIAL MEDIA POSTS

The process of creating quality content is time-consuming - after all, there is a lot involved. From research to writing content, creating visuals and recording video, there is always something to do.

Which made us think, is it worth spending so much time and effort in creating quality content from scratch when it can often get buried in a sea of social posts or get outranked amongst your competitors on Google?

If you are worried about this, there is a solution in the form of re-purposing content. You can create evergreen content using existing information and completely transform your existing blog posts, social posts and old content. Creating something which will never go out of fashion.

There are loads of reasons to do this. Most importantly, you can engage new visitors, improve your search rankings, and ultimately, boost your ROI. However, there are other benefits too, like engaging a new audience and improving engagement on your social channels.

GETTING START IN TRANSFORMING YOUR EXISTING CONTENT

Start by writing down all the pieces you are hoping to promote, stating the reasons why your users will love this content. Be sure to include relevant facts and statistics, plus key points your users need to take away.

From here, you can then re-purpose the content into several different formats so that all your users can engage with it.

Although the list of formats is non-exhaustive, some popular ones include ‘how to’ guides, fact sheets, videos or problem and solutions pages.

Similarly, many techniques can be used to entice users to your content from your social posts. Such as making bold statements, using thought-provoking questions or interesting quotes from your blogs.

HOW TO BREATHE NEW LIFE INTO YOUR EXISTING CONTENT

CREATE GRAPHICS

Users tend to engage more with graphics rather than text alone. They allow users to understand complex information better and grasp your message more clearly. There are lots of formats you could try, like infographics, lists or statistics which can be used across all your social platforms. Just be sure they work well on mobile and can be easily shared. If you’re working to a tight budget, consider designing graphics yourself using an online editor like Canva. You could also make use of free stock imagery, although these tend not to be as effective as original graphics.

USE OLD SOCIAL POSTS

Have you ever posted something on Twitter or Facebook, realising it has been incredibly popular? Use this content and create another campaign from it. By doing this, you may be able to achieve as much as 75% engagement received the first time around partly because many of your followers didn’t see it. Doing this also allows you to drive traffic to your blog as well.

FORMAT SOCIAL POSTS CORRECTLY

On Facebook, a couple of paragraphs work best, while LinkedIn allows you to write something more in-depth. Just make sure you place the URL on a separate line because this draws more attention to the call to action and improves readability. Instagram recommends keeping the copy at the top of the post and using plenty of white space around tags, which should not be overused.

UTILISE TWITTER CORRECTLY

The key to success with Twitter is keeping posts short with plenty of white space along with a couple of tags and short-form links. This platform is particularly suitable for things like stats or quotes. However, you can still link to blogs or content. Ultimately, Twitter gives you an excellent opportunity to generate a lot of traffic through sharing and re-tweets. So make sure to capitalise on its strengths.

POST LIST-STYLE CONTENT

The value of lists is that they work wonders for SEO. Because they contain internal links, Google loves them when it crawls your pages and indexes them. Add links between pages to boost your rankings even further and make yourself as visible as possible in search results. Unsure of how to get started? Think along the lines of ‘how to’ guides or ‘hints and tips’, and you’ll soon be on the path to success for a great list.

MAKE THE MOST OF NEWLETTERS

Newsletters are suitable for engagement because they can be shared with others and link to your blog posts. Unsure how to get up and running with a newsletter? Think about discussing a particular topic, or developing tips on a specific area. Then you could spread this out over a more extended period, enticing your users to return time and time again.

CREATE E-BOOKS OR WHITEPAPERS

If you’ve been blogging for years and have an extensive archive of content, utilise that knowledge in an e-book or whitepaper. A whitepaper is a brief piece of content which is often provided in exchange for someone’s email address. Contrastingly, an e-book is more in-depth, and most of the time is paid for by a customer.

RE-PURPOSE YOUR OLD CONTENT TO SAVE TIME AND MONEY

Developing highly original content all the time can be not only expensive but also unnecessarily time-consuming. However, it doesn’t need to be this way. Existing content can be re-purposed into something new and exciting that can be shared in many formats across your social channels or blogs. Just remember to keep your content optimised so it will appear in search results!
